Don’t Let Your Margin Evaporate: How CI and Leadership Can Help Beverage Manufacturers Stay Ahead

Unlock Efficiency and Strengthen Leadership in a Rapidly Changing Industry

The beverage industry is evolving fast. Rising raw material costs, sustainability pressures, and changing consumer preferences are reshaping production, packaging and supply chains. In this environment, it’s the hidden inefficiencies that quietly do the most damage.

That’s why the most forward-thinking beverage manufacturers are turning to Continuous Improvement (CI) and leadership development, supported by targeted training, to protect margins, boost performance and build lasting capability.

Why Operational Leadership Matters More Than Ever

Today’s operational challenges aren’t just technical, they’re people challenges. Line stoppages, rework, energy waste and skills gaps can all erode efficiency. At the same time, managers are expected to embed sustainable practices, maintain compliance and drive measurable business results.

The most effective sites tackle these challenges by turning people, processes and data into consistent, measurable improvements. Structured CI programmes help teams identify inefficiencies and implement lasting solutions.

Where Margins Leak

Beverage production has its predictable pain points:

  • Yield variation from raw materials, process changes, or changeovers
  • Packaging issues, including minor line stops, labelling errors and wasted materials
  • Excess water or energy usage in cleaning, cooling and utilities
  • Downtime from reactive maintenance or inconsistent standards

By focusing on these areas, CI programmes and strong operational leadership can make a tangible difference to yield, service and sustainability.

CI and Leadership in Action

We have partnered with leading brands across the food and drink sector to deliver impactful continuous improvement and leadership training, driving measurable gains in efficiency, sustainability and cost reduction and building confident, authentic leaders.

Carlsberg Britvic: Delivering Measurable CI Results

Building on the principle that effective leadership drives operational success, our work with Carlsberg Britvic focused on equipping teams with practical Continuous Improvement tools. Through developing Lean Six Sigma Green Belts, we helped build the internal capability for staff to tackle operational challenges across yield, logistics and waste.

One standout improvement project, led by their trained teams, removed 359 trucks from the road, cut CO₂ emissions by 50.2 tonnes, and improved customer service performance.

Beyond these tangible results, the programme helped embed a structured, data-driven improvement mindset across the organisation, ensuring that gains were sustainable and could be replicated across teams.

Robinsons Brewery: Building Leadership That Delivers

We worked with Robinsons Brewery, one of the UK’s largest independent family brewers to deliver our Authentic Leadership programme in partnership with Springboard Consultancy, designed to strengthen leadership capability across the business.

The programme focused on self‑awareness, behaviour change and people management skills tailored to the unique needs of a long‑established brewer.

As a result, managers became more confident addressing performance issues, took greater ownership of change initiatives, and consistently demonstrated the authentic behaviours needed to support operational excellence.

This leadership shift helped embed a culture of accountability and continuous improvement, strengthening Robinsons’ capability to respond to the kinds of operational and people‑centric challenges that are common in fast‑moving beverage manufacturing environments.

Bringing Strategy and Action Together

At CQM T&C, we work with companies like Robinsons Brewery and Carlsberg Britvic to create training roadmaps tailored to their business and teams.

Operational pressures aren’t going away, but with the right combination of insight, strategy, and hands-on CI and leadership support, beverage manufacturers can protect margins, boost performance and grow lasting capability.
