Lean Six Sigma Green Belt In Practice

When Carlsberg Britvic, a beverage powerhouse and home to some of the UK’s most iconic and popular beers and soft drinks, set out to streamline their operations, it needed a structured approach to support its continuous improvement ambitions. Its solution?

Working closely with CQM Training & Consultancy to deliver an effective Lean Six Sigma Green Belt programme focussed on creating value, reducing waste and driving improvement.

“The annual savings of my ESG project came to just under £1m, but what really sold the changes to our end customer was the sustainability aspect. They quickly bought into the idea because we had all the data and insights to show it was the right thing to do.”

Louise Rewcastle-Adams, Category Demand Planning Manager, Carlsberg Britvic

Lean Six Sigma Green Belt Course

This Lean Six Sigma Green Belt course uses a blend of theory and practical exercises to give delegates the confidence to implement improvement projects in their company aligned to business goals. Delegates will learn to utilise both quantitative and qualitative process analysis to deliver realisable quick wins and make a measurable difference.

After this course, certified employees will be:

  • Fully trained in DMAIC tools and techniques (Define, Measure, Analyse, Improve and Control)
  • Able to lead small-scale projects
  • Assist Black Belts in more complex projects.
  • Confident in identifying and removing process inefficiencies within their organisation.

Our professional, quality training is expertly delivered with insightful context to build a solid foundation of Lean Six Sigma knowledge. Rather than “Death by PowerPoint” or skimming through material in an effort to lightly cover the most ground in the quickest time, our well-balanced training is interactive, engaging and thought-provoking.

Who Is the Green Belt Certification For?

Lean Six Sigma training helps businesses drive productivity and innovation, which is essential in an increasingly competitive marketplace. This course is suitable for:

  • Businesses that want to improve efficiency, increase productivity and maximise their return on investment.
  • Businesses looking to invest in their team, developing their skills and knowledge. This is essential to your organisation’s success and continued growth.
  • Professionals within a business who are currently involved with improvement activity in their organisation or who wish to get involved in the future. This includes managers and more junior employees.

How Green Belts Fit Into Your Business

Green Belts use a blend of Lean and Six Sigma, project and change management tools to identify and lead the delivery of change across organisational functions and processes. Green Belts can operate under the guidance of Black Belts and can be supported by a team of Yellow Belts; however, you do not need to have this in place to become a Green Belt.

Lean Sigma Six Green Belt Course Content

In our Lean Six Sigma Green Belt training, delegates will cover an extensive range of topics across the Define, Measure, Analyse, Improve and Control (DMAIC) phases which are integral to Lean Six Sigma methodology. This will equip delegates with an in-depth knowledge and solid grasp of lean six sigma concepts and tools.

Delegates will delve deeper into the various methodologies, as they plan, implement and lead improvement projects. This allows them to use their knowledge and develop their skills on a real-life, work-based project. Each improvement project is managed and recorded on a profit improvement plan, and our coaching support will help the delegates create a measurable difference and return on investment. However, if you are looking for theory only, we can provide the training course without the work-based project or coaching, and the Lean Six Sigma Green Belt accreditation will be limited to knowledge only.

Find Out How a LSS Green Belt Course Could Benefit Your Business

Lean Six Sigma Green Belt Exam

After a delegate has gone through our 8-day green belt training course, there will be a final exam that will need to be passed for them to be awarded their Lean Six Sigma Green Belt certification. The exam is made up of multiple choice questions which will test delegates on the principles of Lean, Six Sigma and the knowledge needed to improve the effectiveness of business projects.

Thanks to the level of training we provide and the optional coaching our team offers, we’re confident that everyone who attends all of the training sessions will be able to pass the exam. On the off chance that someone should fail the exam, our team will discuss with them what options are available for retaking it.

Workplace Project

Alongside the multiple-choice knowledge exam, each delegate is required to complete a workplace project, which forms a core part of the assessment for full Lean Six Sigma Green Belt accreditation (just theory is available without project work). This practical project is designed to embed and apply the tools, techniques, and thinking developed throughout the programme, while also delivering real, measurable value back to the business.

Delegates are supported by our Development Coach in identifying and selecting a suitable improvement project that aligns with organisational goals and presents a clear opportunity for process optimisation or cost reduction. The project must follow the structured DMAIC methodology (Define, Measure, Analyse, Improve, Control), providing a systematic approach to problem-solving and continuous improvement.

Throughout the project, delegates receive tailored coaching support from one of our experienced Development Coaches. This ensures they remain on track, apply the tools correctly, and develop confidence in their capability as change agents.

On completion, delegates present their findings and outcomes back to key stakeholders within the organisation. The results, including quantified benefits and savings, are recorded on a Profit Improvement Plan (PIP). This plan is provided to the client for review and formal sign-off, offering a clear demonstration of return on investment and positive business impact.

Each project contributes not only to the individual’s development and accreditation, but also to a culture of continuous improvement within the organisation.

Lean Six Sigma Green Belt FAQs

Are There Any Prerequisites for the Green Belt Course?

There are no strict requirements to take our Lean Sigma Six Green Belt Course; however, delegates will need to have a good working knowledge of Lean Six Sigma principles. Ideally, individuals will have undertaken a Yellow Belt certification or at least a White Belt certification or Lean Awareness course, as this ensures the base level of knowledge around the LSS methodology is there.

What Is Lean Six Sigma?

Lean Six Sigma (LSS) is a methodology used to improve business processes, based on the combination of two management ideologies, Lean and Six Sigma.

  • Lean is a way of thinking that aims to reduce waste from any process to maximise customer satisfaction. This involves continuous improvement and incremental adjustments to achieve minimal waste and allow teams to work more efficiently.
  • Six Sigma is a collection of methodologies which improve the quality of business processes and reduce the number of errors and defects. Its aim is a level of quality that is nearly perfect, with less than 3.4 defects per million opportunities. This quality is achieved using DMAIC (Define, Measure, Analyse, Improve, Control).
